The Mezuzah Fraud

Updated: Jul 26, 2023

Independent research in the Crown Heights neighborhood in the United States revealed serious kosher scams.

Most people do not know the rules and laws of Mezuzah. They rely on the stores that sell Mezuzos to verify their merchandise before they sell it to the public. Unfortunately, in today's commercial environment, it does not happen. The demand for cheap and inexpensive mezuzos are growing, the market for sub-par quality mezuzos is rising. Many stores, even operated by Orthodox Jews, are selling Mezuzos which have questionable Kosher status at best.

Rabbi Moshe David Wolf, of Chicago, decided to test the market for himself. He ordered 10 Mezuzos from 8 different stores and had them checked by an independent Sofer. The Results were shocking:

Only 1 store had all their Mezuzos verified as Kosher (What can be seen with the eye is only 10% of kashrut problems, the other 90% of the problems cannot be detected after the preparation of the mezuzah), while many had ALL of their Mezuzos invalidated completely! People are spending lots of money, out of trust, and are being sold false goods. He has produced a video, showing the complete process and he has a message to everyone buying a Mezuza: Be careful where you buy your Mezuza and always have them checked by a reliable and independent scribe.
